How to make your blog available for Google?

Written on May 15, 2008 – 1:13 pm | by Roman |

When first starting a blog or a website it can take some time when Google finds your new website and indexes it to make it searchable in Google’s search engine.

Luckily for us there is something we can do about it instead of waiting.

The first thing you should do is go to Google Webmaster Tools and let Google know the domain name of your website.

After adding a new website you have to verify that you are indeed the owner of the site by uploading a file with a special name.

Google XML Sitemaps

After Google is certain that you are indeed the owner of your website it gives you an option to upload a sitemap. Doing this helps Google to index your blog and new posts quickly after publishing them.

If you are running a Wordpress blog you can download the Google XML Sitemaps plugin that automatically builds a new sitemap each time your blog is updated.

Know if you have successfully installed the Google XML Sitemaps plugin you should open Google Webmaster Tools again and upload your newly built sitemap.

After this is done it can take a few hours for Google to download your sitemap and then index your webpage.

In addition to uploading your sitemap to Google you can also do the same at Yahoo and MSN Live Search

Do you know of a Google XML plug-in for Typepad?

Also, I think I’ve read on Google’s site somewhere that adding the URL of your blog/site won’t really work much faster than just waiting for the crawler to come around. But you might as well try it. Thanks for the tip.
