LOL! At one point I had 2 years' of savings but it has now been depleted completely with the current recession/depression we are experiencing now that from my history as outlined below really shows a downward trend in employment starting in 1998. Normally I can line up work in a jiffy through friends or well written cover letters with functional resumes. When I was work injured in 1998 at a well known office supplies company, the money carried me through to the settlement of what became a worker's comp. case. Shortly after, the employer decided to close their offices and I was able to work full time elsewhere almost immediately and had about 7 months of savings that could carry me. The next employer was one with whom I worked on a part time basis for many years while working at the office supplies company and went full time. Unfortunately, it was affected by economic harship and closed as well, this was 11 months after the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01-it was a real estate brokerage. Moving on to the next job I worked for 3 years before that employer decided to close their online retail division to focus on wholesale announcing the closure 2 weeks before doing so in 2003. I found work with a mortgage banker through craigslist.org within a week and a half. That mortgage banker closed their phone marketing department because of the first part of the mortgage 'meltdown' see lenderimplode.com. I found work with another mortgage banker that was large with 200 employees and this was in late 2007. I worked there until the end of 2008 and saw this company deteriorate and finally close due to the devaluation of real estate that prevented it from being able to refinance thousands of potential clients, staff dwindled from 200 to 120 or so, to 85 and then to about 40 of us because few loans were possible to do.

I have been unable to hookup with any employers now despite pulling out all the stops to find any full time work! I've attended job fairs, walked into offices and continuously respond to ads, even city and county job postings. The most recent one was for a city police department administrative position that resulted in over 600 applicants-I found this out by going to the city office personnel department whose staff told me they selected people with direct police type education or experience so 'functional' applications (me trying to 'squeeze' myself into a position with skills I have doesn't work anymore.)

I now have no savings and only a few more months of Unemployment Insurance before I either find work or will find myself living with family where I will be able to take some refresher business classes and work on a business plan because I don't plan on going back into real estate or loans anytime soon. Otherwise I would be on the street-a scary thought that is the reality for many who really want to get back to work!
