The following is a guest post by Jonny at Finance Wand.

Money saving ideas have great relevance in this present era as financial slowdown continues.

You can save a lot of money by simply modifying your lifestyle. Whether you plan to save for college or tighten your luxurious budget or wish to build a retirement plan, the following money saving tips or tricks can significantly reduce your financial stress.

Here are 20 quick ideas and strategies to save money:

1.    Do not go for unplanned purchases at the shopping malls. Making a shopping list can save a lot of money!

2.    While grocery shopping you can buy store brands instead of premium ones. Store brands are often the exact same product for as much as 3 times smaller price.

3.    Cooking at home is not only easy and time saving but also cheap. Find some great online recipes and avoid restaurants.

4.    Bring home made lunch to office instead of spending your money on fast food.

5.    Buy gifts for friends or relatives when items are on sale.

6.    Take utmost advantage of rebate offers.

7.    Cancel all of your subscriptions that you really don’t use for better money saving.

8.    Always set up your budget before making any purchase. It helps you to get a better grip on your income and expenditure.

9.    Recycling and reusing is a great money saving trick.

10.    Go for a picnic or outing in State Parks instead of expensive theme parks.

11.    Automate your various bill payments. As such you will be able to avoid credit score damage and late charges.

12.    Read news on the internet instead of buying newspapers.

13.    Keep your car in top shape. Slow driving, smooth acceleration and braking will offer better mileage and thus your money will be safe in your wallet.

14.    If you have an extra room or extra space then rent it. Renting property is worth the bucks.

15.    Reduce your monthly utility bills. Always buy energy efficient appliances. Tuned up (if required) and clean appliances save energy.

16.    Choose your home or car or travel insurance quotes carefully. Make your research and then choose the one that suits your budget. Thus, shop around while buying financial products. Try to get a low price and licensed insurer.

17.    Do not use your car while the destination is at a walking distance. Save the cash instead of paying it off at a gas station. It will be a fine work out for you and you also protect your vehicle from wear and tear.

18.    Try to do the repairs in your home or car yourself.

19.    If you spend a lot of money on books, then you can easily reduce your costs by using a public library. Public libraries offer social meet-ups, educational programs and many others.

20.    Choose a safe and sound retirement plan. Make a clear idea of the retirement scheme and benefits before taking any decision.

Saving money makes you feel happy and comfortable and it is also great for your wallet. Being frugal and saving money can help you on your way to a balanced cash flow and financial stability.

If you want to get rich then step 1 is to learn how to save money!

I loved the tips that you sited in your article. My family has been doing many of these things over the years. You truly have no idea how much money you can save when just following these tips. I also know a couple who saved by following these tips and was able to save enough to make a trip to China to adopt a child. Kudos my friend.

Set a jar (big) next to the door entering your bedroom…each day put all your spare change from that day..and every night put one dollar in …think about it…in one year you would have $365+ not incuding the extra money you dont put in there!!
