</p><p>When first starting a blog or a website it can take some time when Google finds your new website and indexes it to make it searchable in Google&#8217;s search engine.</p>
<p>Luckily for us there is something we can do about it instead of waiting.</p>
<p>The first thing you should do is go to <a href="https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/dashboard?hl=en" onclick="return TrackClick('https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fwebmasters%2Ftools%2Fdashboard%3Fhl%3Den','Google+Webmaster+Tools')">Google Webmaster Tools</a> and let Google know the domain name of your website.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-29" title="Insert your domain name" src="http://www.financialjesus.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/webmastertools.jpg" alt="" width="490" height="209" /></p>
<p>After adding a new website you have to verify that you are indeed the owner of the site by uploading a file with a special name.</p>
<h1>Google XML Sitemaps</h1>
<p>After Google is certain that you are indeed the owner of your website it gives you an option to upload a sitemap. Doing this helps Google to index your blog and new posts quickly after publishing them.</p>
<p>If you are running a WordPress blog you can download the <a href="http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/" onclick="return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fextend%2Fplugins%2Fgoogle-sitemap-generator%2F','Google+XML+Sitemaps+plugin')">Google XML Sitemaps plugin</a> that automatically builds a new sitemap each time your blog is updated.</p>
<p>Know if you have successfully installed the Google XML Sitemaps plugin you should open Google Webmaster Tools again and upload your newly built sitemap.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30" title="Upload your sitemap" src="http://www.financialjesus.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/sitemap.jpg" alt="" width="490" height="79" /></p>
<p>After this is done it can take a few hours for Google to download your sitemap and then index your webpage.</p>
<p>In addition to uploading your sitemap to Google you can also do the same at <a href="https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit" onclick="return TrackClick('https%3A%2F%2Fsiteexplorer.search.yahoo.com%2Fsubmit','Yahoo')">Yahoo </a>and <a href="http://webmaster.live.com/WebmasterManageSitesPage.aspx" onclick="return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwebmaster.live.com%2FWebmasterManageSitesPage.aspx','MSN+Live+Search')">MSN Live Search</a></p>
